Letter to CBYF

Mrs. Oi-Lin Lau, April 13, 2004

Dear Joshua, Philip, James, Deborah, Benjamin, Jonathan, K. Lo, Jennifer, the little boy getting into trouble with Philip and the other CBYF members who did not sign their names,

I received your beautiful get-well card that really cheered me up. I enjoyed your self-style handwritings and the thoughtful and encouraging messages. Hay! Who is that little boy getting into trouble with Big Philip? I have tried to recall who he is and still can’t remember his name. Maybe the chemotherapy has made me more like President Ronald Reagan. As you know, I always tried to protect the little. However, the last impression Philip gave me was a growing up young gentleman.

From the bottom of my heart, I really thank you for remembering me, especially at this difficult time. I already received two chemo treatments and will continue to fight four more. I believe I will be able to overcome all the terrible side effects because you guys pray for me everyday. I want you to know I miss you very much and hope I will be able to return to Miami to see you again before September.

Baton Rouge is the Capital of Louisiana. I believe you already know about it. But there is something about this city that you may not know and want to know about. Here the French tradition is still very popular. Many street names are French names. The natives are very proud of their Cajun cooking. Pastor Lau and I enjoy this cooking very much because it is like half-Chinese and half-French style. Most Americans don’t know how to cook fish well, but the Baton Rouge-New Orleans people are different. They cook fish very well. They are extremely proud of their local lobster which is actually a tiny crawl fish. It looks exactly like a Maine lobster, but it is about two-inch long. It is their lobster season now. I was told a teenage boy or girl can eat five to six pounds of them because they only eat their tails. Of course a lot of Chinese enjoy sucking their juicy heads because they like to eat the lobster eggs.

There is another thing you may be interested to know. There is a very popular kind of donut which is called French donut here in Baton Rouge and New Orleans. As a matter of fact, it is not a donut because it is square and you find no hole in it. But the local people love to eat it along with their famous Community coffee. Pastor Lau is crazy about their donut but not their coffee.

There is one more thing I would like to tell you. I don’t know what the teenagers love to enjoy here in Louisiana. But there is one thing they love to enjoy the most this year. Can you guess what it is? It is the LSU sign. This sign is seen everywhere. I didn’t know what it meant until Pastor Lau told me. It is because their LSU won the college football championship this year. If LSU can win, I believe you guys will become greater winners in the future. Keep moving on and shining for Christ. Read Isaiah 60:1.

I am enclosing a check to show my love to CBYF. You may take this check to our offering counting room which was my office and they will cash it for you. Please give my best regards to your parents.

Love always,
Mrs. Oi-Lin Lau
