A brief biographical sketch of Reverend John W. Lee |
|
The oldest of three, Pastor John
Lee is a first generation American-born Chinese originally from San Antonio,
TX. Though he did not grow up in a Christian home, his parents allowed him
to attend church on Sundays. By the grace of God, he accepted Christ by the
age of 12. He sporadically attended church throughout most of his teenage
years. Like most Chinese students, he concentrated on doing well in school,
and joined several social and academic clubs to build a resume. Included
among those achievements were playing on his high school tennis team and
serving as editor of the school paper and yearbook. While attending Trinity University on a full academic scholarship in San Antonio, he felt emptiness in his academic pursuits. As he searched for something to fill that void, he accepted a standing invitation to attend a college Bible study fellowship from his church. He knew little of the Bible. Nevertheless his peers warmly accepted him. Two medical students discipled him for three years. As he discovered how much God had loved him, he began to serve the Lord in whatever ways he could. With a degree in biology, he hoped for acceptance into medical school. But that was not meant to be. While maintaining a possibility of entering medical school later, he worked for several years at a research lab in the field of neural-endocrinology. During that time, through the encouragement of his pastor and several Christian brothers, he sensed the Lord calling him to full time ministry. Only after the Lord answered his prayer to change the heart of his now Christian mother, did John leave his job to study at Dallas Theological Seminary. During seminary studies, he developed a long distance relationship. After several years of dating, he married Lily Ng in 1986. Working as a hospital pharmacist, she supported him as he finished his studies. Then he accepted the call to serve the Lord at the Chinese Baptist Church of Miami as the assistant pastor starting in September 1989. During his years in Miami, the Lord has blessed him with two healthy and energetic sons, Joshua and Daniel. Lily has undertaken the task of home-schooling their sons. Pastor John regularly handles teaching, preaching and counseling responsibilities in both the mother church in Miami and its mission church in Coral Springs (located about 50 miles north), serving primarily among the young adults, college students and teenagers. |
